Every author has a voice, a voice that is entirely their own. A voice that defines who they are, what they believe in and sometimes, what they are hoping for. Human beings are unified by this same characteristic. We acknowledge that just as every human is different, so do our experiences, personalities, and beliefs differ. But these altogether define who we are, and who we are defines how we write.Cookie-cutter books and characters are easy, you don’t want easy. Find out what kind of author you are and make your own mold. That doesn’t mean you can’t be open to change, to learning, to grow as both a human and an author. It just means that you are you and there is no one else like you.

With the desire to ‘make it’ out there, it is easy to be entangled in thoughts like “well, this author writes like this, and they’re really popular so I’m going to write like that and I’ll be popular too.” Maybe you will, and maybe you won’t. What really matters is using your voice to impact lives.

As an author, I’m still learning to recognize what my voice is, and that is also part of my writing journey. We learn we grow, and our writing should reflect that change. Don’t be afraid of who you are, don’t be afraid to write the stories that God has placed on your heart because they are placed there for a reason. Maybe you’re the only person with the experience needed to write that particular story. Maybe only you can reach that one person the story is meant for.

Becoming an author is not an easy task, and it’s honestly not a lucrative one either. Write because you love it. Write because it makes you happy and sets you free, even if it’s painful at times.

Bio: Tabitha was born, raised, and still lives in the same small town in middle Tennessee. A member of ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writers), she has been writing for nearly five years but only recently began publishing her work. Currently, she is working on her writing while pursuing her Bachelor's Degree in Creative Writing. Her books are meant to encourage others through the trials of life. While the stories are fiction, they come from situations that many of us face.
