I must say, this was a very nice pick to start off the year. I wasn’t really sure of what to expect based on the title, but it sure delivered pleasant surprises. This book is a collection of three connecting stories of an Amish family. One of the things that connect them is stated in the title of the book- The beloved Christmas quilt. This is a special quilt that brings direction, answers and hope to each recipient it’s handed down to. In this case, three generations of the family. The three stories are written by three generations of Brunstetter authors. Each story is focused on one generation of the Amish family; each passing down the beloved Christmas quilt that has a comforting Bible verse knitted on it, serving as a reference in time of need- Psalm 31:3 For thou art my rock and fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me (KJV).

I like the arrangement of the three stories, the flow and connection of all the characters to the end of the book. In the second and third story, I was excited to keep reading conversations and contributions of the characters from the first story- Luella and Atlee; their story was a very special one. One of the things I learned from their story was learning to let God have His way in our lives, so he could give us peace and joy we long for. When it seemed there would be no way for them, these words by Atlee served as an assurance that God is always there- “Where God leads, he will light the way.”

The second story- Karen’s gift slowly introduced the characters from the first story which was very interesting to me. At first, I wasn’t sure if it was about the same family until they were introduced. This story taught and reminded me a lot about patience in a relationship and keeping a positive attitude, believing all will be well.

The third story in this book- Roseanna’s Groom is literarily jaw-dropping. This was a case of a ‘runaway groom’ who without explanation left his bride on the wedding day. This story is so interesting and, in my opinion, it was the perfect ending for the collection. Another interesting part about the book is the baking recipes at the end of each story, you might want to try those out.

This is my first book by Wanda Brunstetter, Jean Brunstetter and Richelle Brunstetter, and I love their work. I look forward to reading more from these authors.
