When you think of the anatomy of the brain you realize that it is complex due to its intricate structure and function. The brain acts as a control center by receiving, interpreting and directing sensory information throughout the body. It basically tells our body how to act but what influences our subconscious thought processes? The mind is usually associated with the brain but not limited to it. It is an important
aspect that governs feeling, attitude, belief, and imagination. The mind holds your deepest thoughts and it is closely linked to the heart.
But how important is the function of your mind in your walk with God? The popular verse about the mind – 2 Timothy 1:7 says “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].”
Sound Minds make Sound Christians.
If the mind is unstable, that means the body and the spirit also become unstable. None can function without the other and the spirit should govern all else. I don’t know if you realize it, but whenever the enemy wants to stop a Christian in his/her tracks he attacks the mind.  Words of condemnation, thoughts of low self-worth and concepts of inconsistencies in God plague the mind in an attempt to shut it down.
Do not believe that…
“You are not good enough.”
“You were better off as a sinner.”
“Christianity is a waste of time.”
“You can never pursue this purpose.”
“God made a mistake when He called you.”
They are all lies. The devil cannot speak the truth, so he attempts to make lies seem truthful. As Christians, we must guard our minds against the attacks of the devil.
5 Steps to Mental Wellness
1. Take care of yourself – do the things you love to do. Do your hair, get a haircut, play a few games or read a good book.
2. Colossians 3:2 – “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” It is
easy to become distracted by the things of the world. The assets you want to obtain, the stocks you want to buy and the money you want to make can all become distractions that play on your mind.
3. Declare 2 Timothy 1:7 “for God has not given you a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind.”
4. Hebrews 13:5 – Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Social Media easily fuel an unstable mind. High expectations, comparisons, and envy often creep in to throw you off balance. You must be content with what you have and be focused on the will of God for your life. Prosperity looks different for each believer and non-believers revel in provisions of the flesh. Fix your eyes on the things of the spirit and you will be easier able to navigate through the web of social media.
5. Rejoice in the Lord always. Prayer breaks chains and frees the spirit. Always give Glory, Honour, and Praise unto God. Your greatest asset on the human body is your mind. Guard it as well as you aim to guard your heart.
“I will restore you to health and heal your wounds ‘declares the Lord…” (Jeremiah 30:17)
