This book took us into a journey with a single mother, Tandi who is trying to re-structure her life and that of her two children, in North Carolina Hatteras Island. An Island that holds history and memories from her childhood.

The feel you get at the beginning of this book is strictly based on your mood before and when you actually start reading. Be determined to read it nevertheless. Though the book started out slow on a personal note, it finally got interesting with lots of emotional scenes and life changing events in the lives of the characters. In a rental cottage of a sweet old lady called Iola Anne Poole, Tandi hopes to get on with her life on a clean slate, leaving behind her terrible past. Unfortunately, the old lady dies and Tandi hopes her world doesn’t come crashing if she is asked to leave the cottage.

Faced with the responsibility of cleaning out Iola’s house. Tandi discovers boxes that hold treasure to the mind, body and soul. Boxes filled with years of Iola Anne’s life. The sweet, the bitter and quiet experiences of Iola Anne were all in these boxes, waiting for Tandi. In many ways, the content of the boxes in Iola Anne’s house helped Tandi claim back her life into a much more meaningful one.

I love the words of wisdom crafted in every single page of this book. Talk about life lessons, there’s a great amount embedded in this book. The Author’s writing style is very descriptive; Each word is carefully written to help the reader live in every moment of each page. The life events of the characters are beautifully described to create a sense of reality for the reader. I admired the characters and I grew to understand their lives both in the past and present.
