This novel portrays deep and emotional struggles families go through in their desire to have children and keep them safe. It also presents the fear and indecision a young teenage mother struggles with, in an unexpected pregnancy. Keep your tissue close by while reading this novel especially if you’ve gone through similar situations or know someone who has. It really a heartfelt one. I imagined the pain and disappointment of the characters, which I know it’s what people go through in reality. On the bright side, it’s not all heartbreaking, there are some amazing life lessons to be taken away from Two Weeks.
This novel is categorized as contemporary Christian fiction and the storyline is basically pro-life. There are four couples in the book whom events in their lives lead and connect them to one baby. Before I go on, I really hope there will be a continuation of this story in another book. I love the Baxter family series and this one exceeded expectation, just like the others.
Elise was determined to make up for her past mistakes after moving to Bloomington. Life seemed better and full of hope as she found the perfect gentleman, Cole, who treated her with so much respect compared to her ex. It was a dream come true until she discovered she was pregnant and the baby is from her past relationship. Having a father who served as a role model, young Cole wanted to do what his father had done for his mum by promising to stand by Elise and her unborn baby even when the baby wasn’t his. His own decision only came at the expense of his education and future career.
Standing face to face as history played back, Landon and Ashley stood by their son Cole as he supported the love of his life Elise through her pregnancy.
Another couple is Lucy and Aaron. These two went through so much disappointment while trying to have a child for ten years. One decision to stick together and believe God one more time brought them a miracle.
My thought: Circumstances might make one give up and lose faith, but I’ve learned that standing in faith with your spouse is deeply respected by God. Wavering faith only delays.
My heart literally broke for this couple, Theo and Alma. After many years of trying to have a child, they were finally blessed with one. only to lose her at an early age. “No parent should lose a child.” Those were the same words that pierced Elise’s heart to reconsider putting up her baby for adoption.
The title of the book ‘Two Weeks’ is the length of time the state gives the biological mother to make a final decision to move forward with the adoption or withdraw.
It took two weeks for Elise to decide what she wanted for her future which would influence Cole’s future too.
It took two weeks for Elise’s baby to reassure Theo and Alma they needed to become foster parents again after the loss of their daughter.
It took two weeks for Lucy and Aaron to stand strong in faith, believing Elise’s baby will be theirs to keep.
I give this book a five star and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
