Have you ever read the book of Matthew, Chapter 1 and felt it was boring? Half of the chapter talks about the generations that existed before the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. So many times, when I come across that chapter during personal bible study, I skip it and start from the next chapter to read because of impatience in reading all the names and history leading to the birth of Our Lord Jesus.

“So, all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.”

Matthew 1:17, KJV:

Fourteen generations passed before the Savior of the world was born. Do you know how long that is in years? We are not going into the calculation of this genealogy, but that is the length of time the prophets had waited for the revelations and prophesies to come to pass. Even the bible testifies that many died without seeing the fulfilment of the prophesies, but the outstanding thing there was that they never stopped believing all through their days on earth.

This brings into vision the length of time people wait for the promise(s) of God to be fulfilled in their lives, families and even concerning the entire world. Have you been given a revelation that a certain thing will come to pass in your life but you feel it’s taking too long? Maybe it’s been some years and you are at the verge of giving up. Now you’ve been reminded on the length of time before our Savior was born, and how long people waited for the Messiah to bring good tidings into the world, what are you going to do regarding that promise you are waiting on? Will you lose hope or stop believing?

Thinking of the prophets and believers who were waiting for the Messiah, what were they doing while waiting? They kept serving. Every single person in each generation played an important role in keeping the ball rolling. So, I encourage you, while you are waiting, keep serving. Keep doing the best out of what you presently have. Don’t let the dream die with you, pass the idea, the wisdom, the desire, the hope to the next generation. In due time, it will be fulfilled.

“It may not all be fulfilled in the time I lay in my heart, but while I am still in this world, I will play my part for the next generation and the ones to come by keeping the dream alive.
